Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness, also referred to as “double chin.”
How does Kybella work?
Kybella is a naturally-occuring molecule in the body (deoxycholic acid) that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella causes destruction of the fat cells. Once these cells are destroyed, they are no longer able to store or accumulate fat.
What areas can we treat with Kybella?
- Submental fullness (double chin)
- Anterior/posterior bra fat
- Banana roll—excess fat under the buttocks
- Fullness at the corners of the mouth and jawline
- Stubborn areas of small fat post liposuction or prior surgery irregularities
How many treatments are required?
Most people require 2-3 treatments spaced 8-12 weeks apart.
What happens at the Kybella treatment?
We initially mark the area to be treated and how much product is required. It is administered via needle or cannula based on each patient’s anatomy. The procedure takes approximately 10-15 minutes.
What are the side effects associated with Kybella?
Side effects can include swelling, bruising, pain (resolves within 10 minutes), numbness, redness, and induration (small areas of firmness around treatment area).
What causes submental fullness or a “double chin?”
Causes of submental fullness can include genetics, aging, and weight gain.
