Self conscious about leg veins? Let’s talk about Sclerotherapy.

Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical treatment to treat spider vein diseases. It is a minimally invasive procedure administered by one of our board-certified providers using a solution called sclerosant directly into the damaged vein. The sclerosant (Sotradecol) irritates the blood vessel causing it to shrink and collapse allowing blood to be re-routed into other healthier veins. Schedule your complimentary consultation today to determine if you are a candidate for this treatment.

What are spider veins?

Spider veins are a web-like (or tree-like) cluster of small red or purple veins that appear on the surface of the skin. The valves in the veins start to malfunction, leading the blood to pool inside the vein. This causes unsightly pigmented veins on the skin.

Hows does sclerotherapy work?

We use an FDA-approved sclerotherapy solution (Sotradecol) to inject directly into the blood vessel and the solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel causing it to shrink and collapse allowing blood to be re-routed into other healthier veins.

Is sclerotherapy painful?

Like any other injection, most people feel a slight, uncomfortable prick when needle is administered. In the majority of treatments, numbing cream is not needed for the procedure.

How long does sclerotherapy treatment take?

Sclerotherapy can take 15-60 minutes, depending on the number of veins needing treatment.  You may resume your normal routine immediately after treatment, but extreme exercise should be avoided for a few days.

How many sessions of sclerotherapy are required?

The number of treatments required varies per patient. Most patients receive treatment in 2-3 sessions separated by 4-6 weeks. Your provider will determine the number of treatments needed to accomplish your desired results.

What are the side effects of sclerotherapy?

Side effects of sclerotherapy such as bruising, itchiness, swelling, skin discoloration, or redness around the injection site can be expected. These side effects are mild and gradually subside within several weeks.

Are there post care instructions for sclerotherapy?

You may resume normal activity immediately following treatment; however, extreme exercise should be avoided for a few days. We recommend patients wear compression garments after the procedure to minimize bruising and stimulate their recovery process.

Will my insurance cover sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is primarily performed for cosmetic reasons. At Brooke Nix Medical Aesthetics, we do not accept medical insurance plans in the office. Some patients are eligible to use their HSA and submit for reimbursement to their insurance company.
